Batate Pohe (बटाटे पोहे)

Batate Pohe (बटाटे पोहे) is a common breakfast recipe that is very easy to prepare.

  • 2 cups thick Pohe
  • 1 potato
  • 2-3 green chillis
  • 1 tsp tamarind paste
  • 4/5 curry leaves (कढी पत्ता)
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • Mustard seeds(मोहरी)
  • Hinga(हींग)
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste and sugar
  • Chopped coriander and fresh grated coconut


  1. Wash Pohe under running water and keep aside for 15 minutes
  2. Peel one potato and make thin slices
  3. Heat kadhai to medium flame and add oil. Once oil starts to heat add mustard seeds(मोहरी), Hinga, Turmeric powder, chopped green chilli, curry leaves and potato pieces
  4. Cover the pan and let the potatoes cook until it becomes soft
  5. Add Pohe and tamarind paste, add salt to taste, 1/2 tsp sugar and mix well.
  6. Garnish with fresh grated coconut and chopped coriander

Serve Batata Pohe with Roasted or fried papad
