Sooji Upama

Sooji Upama (तिखट मिठाचा सांजा) is very quick and easy breakfast recipe made from Sooji


  • 1 cup Sooji (रवा)
  • 2 1/2 cup water
  • 3-4 curry leaves (कढी पत्ता)
  • 1 teaspoon urad daal (उडीद डाळ)
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • Pinch of Hing, mustard seeds and turmeric powder
  • 2 Green chili
  • Pinch of salt and sugar


  1. Heat a thick bottom Kadhai on medium flame and roast 1 cup of Sooji for 7-8 minutes continuously stirring it
  2. Keep the roasted Sooji in a separate bowl
  3. Keep 2 1/2 cup of water in a container and boil it
  4. In the same kadhai add 2 tablespoons of oil and keep it medium heat
  5. Once the oil heats up add Hing, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves, Urad Daal and cut green chili to the oil
  6. Add the roasted Sooji to the Kadhai, add salt to taste and pinch of sugar and mix it well
  7. Tip: This mixture of Sooji can be refrigerated and used for many days. Whenever you (or your husband if he is a lazy cook like mine) need to make Upama, just add boiling water to make the upama

  8. Add boiling water to the Sooji and immediately cover the kadhai with a lid
  9. Let the mixture boil for about a minute on medium heat and stir the sooji well, cover it again
  10. Once the sooji becomes thick, turn the heat off … Sooji Upama is ready

Garnish with thin Sev and lemon and enjoy the Sooji Upama
