Brightspeed plans to pass 1 million addresses with fiber in its multistate rural and suburban footprint by the end of next year.
The announcement provides detail on previously announced plans for the company, which initially will be comprised of operations across 20 states that Apollo Management is acquiring from Lumen. Brightspeed has already said that it will invest more than $2 billion in fiber during the next five years.
The company aims to reach as many as 3 million addresses during the five-year period. It plans to deploy XGS-PON-based FTTP technology capable of more than 1 Gbps upload and download speeds.
In March, Brightspeed said it had begun design and construction preparation in its home state of North Carolina for the upgrade initiative.
North Carolina will be the most active state in Brightspeed’s footprint. Work going on there will serve as the blueprint for future deployments. The company said that it “is confident” that it will test its first office application within weeks. The new company will begin signing customers when the deal between Apollo and Lumen closes, which is now expected to occur during the third quarter of this year.
The four vendors so far announced are KGPCo (supply chain and logistics); Corning (Evolv terminals and Pushloc connectors); Calix (cloud platforms and 10G XGS-PON systems); Dycom Industries Inc. (design and construction services) and IQGeo Group (geospatial software solution).
“We are working to secure final regulatory approvals in the third quarter of this year,” said Chief Executive Officer Bob Mudge said in a press release. “We have already begun design and construction preparations necessary to hit the ground running on day one. We will be well-equipped to quickly deliver on our mission to bring ultra-fast, reliable Internet and Wi-Fi to more homes and businesses.”
