The Fibre Optic Technician plays an integral role in the splicing and installation of new and existing fibre optic networks while meeting high safety and quality standards. This individual will conduct fibre optic services to assigned addresses within a specified geographical area within Northern Ontario (Currently SSM to Marathon) with accommodations paid.

RESPONSIBILTIES:  Conduct fibre installations, maintenance, and repair in various projects within Northern Ontario.  Strip, cleave, clean, splice, install various connectors, test etc. to fibre optic cables (usually 250-900) for Fibre to the home projects as well as node connections where each work order could consist of 1 to upwards of 600 splices to be made.  Reading and understanding fibre optic plans and documentation.  Prepare and distribute various reports and documentation verifying successful splices and within strict time deadlines.  Safely drive a passenger vehicle.  Maintain tools, vehicle, and equipment to high standards.  Complete assigned work to safety standards and compliances.

REQUIREMENTS:  Available to work throughout the year where May-Nov is the busiest season.  Able to work out of town with accommodations paid and in various weather conditions.  Minimum of High School Education  CFOT certification is an asset.  Minimum of 3 years experience preferred.  Previous experience working in utilities and fibre optic splicing/installations.  Wiling to complete on the job practical training as well as online training for work processes and safety.  Ability to work with minimal to no supervision with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.  Able to interpret detailed infrastructure GIS and fibre network plans and apply it to daily work.  Ability to meet deadlines and organize the completion of assigned work within a specific period.  Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential.  Computer and technical skills are an asset.  Valid class G driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract is required.  First aid certificate is an asset.

This position is currently project based and is contract with the potential of becoming permanent FT/PT. Preference to those with experience and that can work independently.

Dependent on work locations, a work vehicle may be provided and therefore a clean driver's abstract is required.
